In honor of Earth Day today the Earth Guardians, Englewood CO team would like to provide you all with a few tips on how to 'green up' your daily lifestyle. So let's begin...
- Give up your dryer and switch to air drying your clothes on a line- Clothes dryers are the third most energy-hungry and energy inefficient appliance in most households after the dishwasher and refrigerator. Air-drying your clothes can reduce the average household’s carbon footprint by a whopping 2,400 pounds 0f Co2 a year!
- Give up single-use plastic (includes plastic bags)- Single-use plastic items cannot be recycled and should therefore not be used. When these plastics end up in the landfill they will often also end up in the mouths of marine life. Use renewable items instead such as silverware, and reusable bags.
- Food- It has been estimated that 13% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions result from the production and transport of food. Buy local and eat a more diversified diet including less meat and dairy to reduce your carbon emissions resulting from the use of fossil fuel-based fertilizers, pesticides, and gas required to produce and transport of the food you eat.
